Coleman Introduces Its First Exponent Down Series Bags

In a move to further enhance its Coleman® Exponent® sleeping bag line, Coleman is adding a series of top-of-the-line bags with goose down insulation for excellent warmth-to-weight ratio, plus high-grade cover and liner material that is soft to the touch but extremely durable.

The six Cloudcroft™ mummy bags will be available in regular and long sizes, with temperature ratings of 40, 20 and 0 degrees. Suggested retail prices will range from approximately $120 to $215 per bag. The bags will be available in spring 2006.

“When shopping for a high-adventure mummy bag, one of the main factors people consider is down vs. synthetic fiber,” said James Christians, marketing assistant – adventure recreation. “Some consumers strongly favor down, so we’re offering them an affordable down option within the Coleman Exponent line.”

The high-quality 310 Tactel® nylon cover and liner material was chosen to complement the gray goose down insulation (FP600). Tactel nylon has a tight enough weave that no additional coating – or added weight – is needed to make the fabric down proof, plus it has “nice hand.” In other words, “It feels really good when you touch it,” Christians said. The material is highly favored for its irresistible touch, superior drape and variety of textures, and is used for a wide range of premium clothing including lingerie, swimwear, active wear and outerwear.

The Cloudcroft bags all have semi-sculpted hoods, draft tubes and baffle construction for retaining warmth. Other warmth-retention features of the bags include insulated zipper gussets and ground-level side seams to prevent rising heat from escaping. The 0-degree bags also have an insulated chest baffle for optimal heat retention in the body of the bag.
The bags have “Which One” cinch cords for easy hood adjustment. One is for adjusting the top portion of the hood and the other adjusts the lower portion. The two cords are colored and shaped differently – one is flat, one is round – making it simple to select which one to adjust, even in the dark. The cord sleeve containing the “Which One” cords is integrated into the top surface of the bag, so the cords are less noticeable and less likely to cause discomfort.

For comfort, each of the bags has a trapezoidal foot section, which means it is angled to allow for the foot’s natural position during sleep.

Other features include:
• Double slider zipper for ventilation and zipper guard to prevent snags.
• Interior utility pocket for storage of small items.
• Small nylon stuff sack for packing.
• Foot loops and 100 percent cotton bag for long-term storage options.

The bags are orange on top and black on the back, with gray liners. The regular bags are 31 x 80 inches, and the long versions are 32 x 88 inches. Additional specifications for each bag follow.
